I recently had a conversation with a friend who told me how she always wanted to be an artist.

I said that she can do whatever she wants, but she smiled and replied it was too late for her. She said “If I was younger maybe it would’ve worked out but now I’m older, I have a job and kids to care for. I can’t just become an artist.”

The conversation stuck with me afterwards. I felt the surge of happiness when she said she wanted to be an artist and how her energy plummeted the moment she said it was too late for her. Almost as if she failed in life.

We feel like failures when things don’t work out.

When we’re children we start off with big dreams and desires. We hold those dreams close until someone or something along the way tells us that it’s impossible and to grow up. When that happens, we throw our dreams right out the window and become the reasonable adults in living in the real world. I mean, we have to learn how to survive right?

However, once we get the job or the house or the family, we notice that ours dreams are still there in the back of our heads. They start to tug at us asking to be heard only for us to shoo it away. But once we acknowledge those dreams that we once longed for, we suddenly feel like failure. We regret not following or at least trying out that dream and see how much time and opportunity passed us by.

If you’ve ever experienced this or if this is where you currently at in life, I have good news for you.

Nothing is permanent.

Everything that has happened or continues to happen in your life is temporary. Even though things may seem permanent at the moment, nothing is every going to stay the same. This is a free will, spiralic Universe that is always changing and evolving. And this is GOOD news!

It means that no matter where we currently are, we have the choice to move forward. We have the ability to change our path and create a new destination to where we want to be. Which means that regardless of how young or old you think you are, you still have time to fulfill those desires that you want and do the things that you’ve dreamed of.

We can choose to start over.

Author and life coach Gabby Bernstein states that at any moment we can choose again by aligning our energy and our thoughts. Our thoughts can either elevate us or weaken us. Bernstein says: “Our words, and the energy backing up those words, affect how we feel. So it’s important that we become mindful of the words we use. Because as we repeat the words, we create momentum around the energy they carry.”

In short, what we think about we BRING about.

If we think of ourselves as failures then we’ll never choose a different path and we’ll forever be stuck. Why? Because when we have a negative thought it manifests externally in our every day life. But if we can re-frame our thoughts choose to not look at ourselves as failures, the Universe will literally open doors for you. At this moment you can reclaim to create a new path. You can look at where you are and say:

“Today I choose a new path towards my desires.”

Make the conscious choice to start over anytime.

Now when I say you can choose again, people automatically assume that I mean you have to quit your job, sell all your things, move to a remote location, and become a brand new human. Let me make this clear:

You can choose to live an amazing life WITHOUT burning bridges or letting go of your responsibilities.

That method is not only reckless, but childish. Instead, when we decide to choose again, we can begin to align ourselves with out desires one step at a time.

Is your dream to travel? Start saving for that trip, go to a book store and learn the language. Want to create paintings? Stop watching Netflix and use social media time to paint. Want to become a writer? Start carrying a journal with you to jot down thoughts or use your lunch break to start writing.

If you truly want to manifest the life you desire, you can choose again and create a new path.

If you’re STILL not convinced that you can choose a different path, here are a few people who’ve experienced failures and setbacks:

  • Oprah Winfrey was fired from her first television job as an anchor in Baltimore.
  • Walt Disney was fired by a newspaper editor because he “lacked imagination and had no good ideas.”
  • Vera Wang failed to make the U.S. Olympic figure-skating team so she became an editor at Vogue and was passed over for the editor-in-chief position. She started making dresses at the age of 40.
  • Steven Spielberg was twice rejected by the University of California School of Cinema Arts.
  • J.K. Rowling was a single mom living off welfare when she began writing the first “Harry Potter” novel and was rejected 12 times before her book published.
  • Sylvester Stallone was told that his movie “Rocky” would never make it on the big screen.

What do all these amazing people have in common? They failed and decided to choose again.

At this moment, you can make the choice to rebuild your life. You can create a new path towards a happier and healthier you. Always remember the power you have inside to create a life worth living.
